DESCRIPTION

Needs a sunny for the house thermal to be working really well. Otherwise a short ridge for ridge soaring. The ridge is short, but the thermals are fantastic. One thermal will take you to cloudbase over the big mtn behind take-off. Just commit to the first turn in the thermal and you will be away. The nice thermal is on the left of the take-off

Sometimes the windspeed increases without warning. If so then it should be ok to top land on the large flat area behind the take-off. If wind goes Easterly then stop flying as there will be rotor from the hill beside the lake to the east. Instead leave and go to Ballaghasheen Gap for more flying.

access

Drive west from Kilorglin for 12km towards Glenbeigh. 1km after crossing the bridge take the first left hand turn, direction 'Treanmanagh' follow up this road for 2km to the top of the pass. Here there is a junction. Go to the right on the dirt track towards the mountain. drive as far as you can, park car sensibly and walk up. At the top is a large flat area. Walk towards the north for the flying area.
