Ballaghasheen Gap

DESCRIPTION

Usually the wind is stronger at this take off than forecasted, so this is a suitable place to fly on light wind days. There is a lower take off beside the road at the 'hairpin' or 'U' bend There is never any lift between the road and the mountain to the north... just big sink. Be high if you want to transition across to this mountain. The valley above the landing field is very thermic and has been known to give fantastic restitution flying, even in late autumn. This is a very remote landscape here. The landscape behind the launch area is very rugged and full of large rocks, trees and some electricity wires Beware flying here in strong winds.... keep out from the take off area if you do fly. finally, there probably will be no mobile phone service in this area either.
