A thermic site with a sheltered takeoff. Beware of being blown back into quarry. Don't scratch low
because there will be rotor behind the trees. Don't fly in strong winds. Assess the true wind direction
carefully.
HG—Difficult
PG—Tricky.
Access
From Bridgwater -leave Cannington on the A39 toward Minehead. Turn left opposite the Cottage Inn at
Keenthorne. I mile on, at crossroads, turn left toward Plainsfield. Take next right sign posted Triscombe
Stone. The tarmac road ends in a car park. Carry through the gate and along the track around the quarry
(with the quarry on your right). Where the track goes downhill steeply, turn left through the line of trees to
takeoff. There is a line of trees running downhill right of takeoff. DO NOT DRIVE TO TAKEOFF!
From Taunton - with a PG it’s quicker to park at the bottom of the hill and walk directly up. In this case
approach from the A358 Taunton to Williton road and follow signs to Triscombe, which take you to the
Blue Ball Inn. Turn right and you can park off the road after about 400yds. A track goes straight up the
front of the hill.
WEATHER
Hazards
Do not land in fields to right of takeoff, or you will have flown over horses and pheasant rearing pens,
and will be made most unwelcome.
The air can be rough (thermic). The size of the quarry should not be underestimated. Do not get close as
you may be sucked into it!
Trees!!.
This is a sensitive site as the hill has been purchased by a conservationist, who is planning to
plant more trees. Make sure you keep a low profile.
