Wolfgat (AKA Macassar)

DESCRIPTION

There is abundant lift when the conditions are good. With a little height, one can crossing the low spot at the parking area and soar the cliffs to the east as far as the tidal pools. No launching or landing anywhere other than the designated cliff or beach launch spots - this is a breeding area for sea birds. NB. It's a notorious crime hot spot! Most locals have stopped flying here

ACTIVITIES

- paragliding
- soaring

weather

Ideal wind is SSE-SSW, 18-24 km/h. More easterly or westerly winds begin to cause rolling rotor along the outcrops of the cliffs and poorer lift, which can impose danger. Beware of the wind strengthening swiftly, especially in the afternoon on hot days. Take sunscreen and sunglasses, especially in summer!

access

Take the N2 from Cape Town, then take the Baden Powell Drive offramp and turn south (right). Follow the road to the sea. Turn left into the large parking area opposite Swartklip Road (M49)

regulation

Please note that this site is in the Cape Town CTR and requires permission from ATC to fly. They usually impose a limit of 300 ft.
