1) APPI schools and instructors

We would like to remind all paragliding instructors that registration by equivalence requires a proper evaluation.

Any paragliding instructor recorded by equivalence must follow a course taught by a master instructor.

• - One day minimum course for Swiss and French graduates instructors explaining the APPI system,
• - full workshop for other instructors.

A quality inspection could be conducted to verify that the APPI instructors were well followed during this training.

2) APPI Paragliding workshop in Latin America

December 9th-21st, 2013, at Ibarra, Ecuador.

The First APPI PRO LATINO Workshop.

The workshop will be given in Spanish.

Del 9 al 21 de diciembre 2013 en Ibarra, Ecuador, se desarrollara el primer workshop APPI PRO LATINO. El workshop se dara en espanol.

This workshop has several courses:

• For pilots:
  • - SIV course,
  • - Basic and Advanced SIV validation,

3) PPG News

APPI PPG Master Instructors Alex Ledger and Kester Haynes are moving to Dubai to oversee the development of a new Paramotor Centre with Skydive Dubai and will be using APPI PPG to qualify and regulate the Pilots, Tandem Pilots and Instructors in the UAE.

APPI PPG Master Instructor Dean Eldridge is about to start some more filming work for the Discovery Channel series 'Aerials'. After that he will be available throughout the winter for Instructor and Competition Training.

4) Renew your APPI annual membership for less!

By paying your annual fee, you can enroll for an additional year for only 20 Euros.

5) 'Fly More project' Bulgaria with APPI

The workshop 'Fly More Project' with APPI is nearing completion.

Already done:

• - Tandem courses with APPI Master Mathieu Abrard,
• - Beginner courses with the supervision of APPI Master Sabrina Thielen,
• - Presentation of the project to the Bulgarian paragliding community.

In progress:

• - Set up the first paragliding technical center for inspection and service, it will be open soon in Sofia, Bulgaria,
• - Developing web portal giving information for the most popular flying sites, connected with online weather information,
• - Soon we will have the planning of the courses for the season 2014.

1) Welcome to the three new instructors from Iraq

APPI is growing, new countries, new schools, and new instructors!

We welcome the three new instructors from Iraq

We hope they can fly in peace and security in their own country, and they do a lot of New APPI pilots.

2) Paragliding world tour on a bike and sailboat

Fly’n’Roll is a zero carbon concept of a paragliding world tour on push-bike and sailboat. Olivier Peyre an APPI pilot, has departed from Grenoble, France in 2008. Later on, Nadège Perrot becomes part of the team.

They will terminate the tour in 2016, having crossed five continents and the two greatest oceans.

They tell the first part of their story on the website www.flynroll.com.

3) The winner of ‘Photo of the month’ for September will receive a surprise gift.

Congratulations to Prajwal Rai (10833) from Nepal, who will receive soon a surprise gift.

4) PPG News

APPI PPG have just run their 5th Instructor course. This time the course took place at the home of SkySchool Spain north of Barcelona.

The course was a huge success and the weather ideal, allowing both trainee instructors and students to do a lot of flying and really develop their skills.

Congratulations to Kester Haynes who has now become an APPI PPG Master Instructor, as well as to all of the Instructors who attained their Assistant and Instructor ratings.

'Open Sky Pilot', 'Adventure Pilot' and 'APPI Pilot' certifications shall be issued following a course of a MINIMUM of 5 days each.

2) As an affiliate member you can learn online with theoretical examinations

You will find more than 750 randomly selected questions to study.

Instructors can download a form to provide the exam to their students.

1) Simplified requirements for Open Sky Tandem Pilot and APPI Tandem Pilot

Change is good! The requirements for Open Sky Tandem Pilot and APPI Tandem Pilot have been simplified to facilitate access to these ratings.

Affiliate instructors can download the form for tandem pilots here.

2) The Rescue Packer course needs to be updated

We must follow the evolution of our sport and include packing of the ANTI-G.

APPI appreciates feed back from all instructors about the teaching and use of the ANTI-G and the ACCRO BASE.

* Reminder: The Rescue Packer course for Advanced Pilots and tandem pilots certifies these pilots to pack their OWN rescues.

All other packing must be done by an Instructor certified rescue packer every 6 months.

ALL certifications for Rescue Packer are given after a proper course and validated by an Instructor Rescue Packer (for more information see Requirements).

5) APPI Master Mathieu Abrard explores the Karakoram

While flying his Ozone M4 deep into the heart of Pakistan’s Karakoram. He writes of his adventure:

“I am now in Pakistan with my M4 and I love it! I fly the small size, over the top [of the weight range] with the o2 equipment and all of my bivouac staff and it’s still flying well, which is great ;-) They were all taken above 6000m in the K2 region, this is an amazing place with 3 summits over 8000m (K2, Gasherbrum, and Leila) and so many glaciers… I still have 2 more weeks, and I will try to go for a 200km and maybe push the Mantra at 7000m. All the best from Pakistan!!”

1) APPI is a proud partner of the FIRST Iran Championship 2013

It will be held in Shahr-e-Kord region and has been organized by the Iran Air Games Association and Mr. Shahin Fallah. The event will be held from August 11th through August 16th with one training day.

2) APPI PPG News

- Coming soon! The new APPI PPG Pilot Level Training Syllabus will be available to purchase in booklet format by APPI PPG Instructors. The booklet takes the student from an Adventure Pilot to an Advanced Pilot. It also includes a Log Book. This will be a vital training tool for Instructors and Students alike and is a big step forward for APPI PPG. To enquire about purchasing these booklets contact: secretary-ppg@flyappi.org

- APPI PPG will be running an Instructor course in the UK. This will take place at Poolbridge Farm just south of York from the 5th to the 12th July. The course fee is £745 and all enquiries should be directed to: secretary-ppg@flyappi.org

- 3rd Party Insurance is now compulsory for all EU based APPI PPG Instructors and APPI PPG Tandem Pilots. Insurance can be purchased through AXA Insurance. All enquiries should be directed to Sepp Himberger: sepp@fly-koessen.at

1) Fly more project in Bulgaria

APPI will contribute to this project by choosing experts for open forums and professional training.

Travel cost, accommodation and salary will be funded by the project.

5 acro demonstrators will also be invited by the project to display their skills at the AIRHEADS festival in Sopot (5-8 September).

2) APPI PPG News

APPI PPG Master Instructor Dean Eldridge came 2nd at Slalomania on a Parajet Zenith paramotor.

Dean will also be running another APPI PPG Instructor course in the UK in July. Enquiries can be directed to: secretary-ppg@flyappi.org.

APPI PPG Safety Officer Chuck Drew is currently filing a report on a recent incident involving a Paramotor pilot who flew into power lines at an event in the UK. The report will be published shortly on the APPI PPG website and Facebook page.

APPI PPG Secretary and Master Instructor Alex Ledger managed to crack Infinity Tumbling with the assistance of Pal Takats.

3) New in the APPI system

A school manager can add an instructor or an assistant from another activity (eg. PPG) as a staff working in his/her school.

APPI international would like to welcome all the new schools that have joined us and congratulate the students on their progression within the APPI education system.

1) What is APPI anyway?

For those of you still confused about the purpose of APPI, for the instructors who need help for registering students, or those who have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our secretary: secretary@flyappi.org.

There is a common misconception regarding APPI as a competitor to local paragliding federations. APPI’s role is NOT to take the place of any local federation or rating system but rather to collaborate with them.

Before receiving an APPI instructor rating, we ask that all instructors be licensed by their local federation.

APPI strives to unite schools, instructors and federations throughout the world and to set an international standard for paragliding and paramotor education. In some countries there is no federation and education is desperately lacking. In this case APPI would like to help the pilots and the schools in these countries gain access to the best training, top schools and instructors around the globe.

3) S.I.V. rating...it's changed!

APPI’s S.I.V. rating for paragliding is now divided into 2 parts, 'SIV pilot' and 'Advanced SIV pilot'.

Please note the specialty 'XC pilot' rating now requires the 'SIV pilot' rating and the 'D-bag pilot' and 'Acro. pilot' ratings now require an 'Advanced SIV pilot' rating.

An APPI PPG master traveled around the world running instructor course in Indonesia, Iran, Nepal and the U.K.
