My background:Sanjay Rao discovered free flight in 1996 and set up Nirvana Adventures as a Paragliding School at Kamshet , India with the idea of developing the region as a paragliding destination.
Sanjay is known and respected amongst the world PG community as well as amongst the villagers of Kamshet for single handedly elevating this back of beyond place into an adventure hub, impacting the lives of the local people and making Kamshet a sought after PG holiday destination. His people ability as well as his infrastructure developing skills, have elevated Nirvana into a premier adventure company. He grew up in Mumbai but today he spends the greater part of his time at Kamshet.
Over the next two years he continued to fly, educate himself about the sport, network with pilots across the world and explore Kamshet and its environs for flying sites suitable for training and higher levels of flying. It took a lot of hard work but the hills helped a lot as they seemed moulded specially for the sport. Kamshet he discovered was the ideal place for paragliding with consistent winds, sites for all the prevailing wind directions and eight long months of flying weather.
His company Nirvana Adventures was born in 1997 and progressed naturally. The more work he did the more there was to do. Today Nirvana Adventures has a compact full fledged training operation, with an impressive range of airworthy equipment and great flying sites. They have trained numerous wanna be birds from across the world in the art of flying, thereby imparting life altering moments and a fresh perspective to the participants.
Sanjay believes that for the sport to grow they need to get more people up in the air. Nirvana Adventures has held training camps across the country, flying festivals at Kamshet and today offers services to an expanding market of foreign pilots who find that Kamshet and Nirvana Adventures have an attractive package to offer. Nirvana Adventures has put Kamshet on the world Paragliding map making it a favorite destination for paragliding enthusiasts from across the world.
Through Nirvana Adventures we have continued the pioneering activity of continuously exploring the region and beyond to find multi ability sites, popularising the sport and opening up the region for flying to the world community by documenting the flying sites and putting them on the world wide web. Today Nirvana is regularly conducting training programs for the Adventure Cells of the Indian Navy / Indian Air Force & Indian Army.
