XC

XC certification means that the pilot has acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to perform his first autonomous cross country flights.

PREREQUISITES

To enroll an APPI XC course, an individual must be certified APPI 3 pilot, or be holder of a rating equivalent to FAI IPPI 3. They must be also holder of the APPI thermalling rating. Basic SIV certification is recommended to enter the course. Have the minimum age in accordance with local rules (Federation/ Civil Aviation/ Army, etc), and have the authorization of a parent/guardian if of minor age.

TRAINING

The course is based on weather forecasting including atmosphere instability analysis, knowledge of glider’s performance and how to use it, improvement of thermalling skills, ability to land in unknown terrain, improvement of stress control and pertinent risk evaluation.
