January 16 to 22 at Sky Adventure School in the Al Faya desert, UAE was held a tandem pro-workshop organized by Shahin Fallah, APPI Master instructor and Middle East representative.
Advanced knowledge was shared on four main topics:
- Equipment and materials from the perspective of aging control and airworthiness evaluation.
- Aerodynamics and piloting: the evolution of paraglider design and its implications for piloting.
- Weather (advanced forecasting), safety, psychology, performance, and regulations.
- Tandem Flying: Techniques and safety procedures.
Pilots from the UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan, Spain, and Mexico attended this workshop. Mr. Nasser Al Neyadi, president of UAE air sports federation, who also attended this workshop was amazed with the scientific and technical content.
Besides the theoretical sessions in the classroom, pilots demonstrated their practical abilities. APPI pilot licenses are issued for participants who passed the theory and practical exams. (APPI 2 & APPI 3 level)
Since the Alfaya site has a low altitude, we are waiting for permission to fly over the sea to evaluate participant’s ability to perform SIV maneuvers, and finalize the practical tandem exams.
