DESCRIPTION

site has been opened above the road: a wide, easy launch area. Drive all the way up the pass until it begins to flatten off. Turn into the first farm complex on your right. Locate the owners and ask for permission to drive to takeoff- south (towards Ceres) through their orchards along the crest of the spine until you are overlooking the valley again.Only site that works near CT when there is a strong prevailing SE. SE light.
Tucked away in the corner of the Ceres valley, Gydo can sometimes escape the SE winds that are lashing the rest of the Cape. On a thermal day, one can climb out from this low pass to the majestic heights of Waboomberg, though it is difficult.

Access

to Worcester, R43 to Ceres, turn left in Ceres towards 'Prince Alfred's
Hamlet', and continue on this road until you climb up the Gydo Pass. Park where the road does its last wide right-hand bend, overlooking the Ceres Valley.

In summer, a strong W wind rushes towards the desert by the afternoon, making Gydo unsafe and very turbulent - get away early.
