DESCRIPTION

Bratton Camp is a large grass area with a north slope. There is NO bottom landing but side landings are ok. Takeoff can be done anywhere on the large camp area and it is great for beginners.

Hang-glider pilots often elect to depart from the White Horse side due to the nearness of the car park to that takeoff area.Excellent site with lift on the northerly Bratton Camp between 350 degrees and 040 degrees. If the wind backs you can move over to the White Horse side which works in winds from 260 degrees through to about 350 degrees.

Access

Drive to Westbury (A350). Take the B3098 to Bratton. In Bratton village turn first right up the hill and use the free car park. Hang gliders set up next to the car park on the grass.

Rules

Site rules: Do not land in any fields except the main car park field, and the bottom Emergency field.

WARNING! The Salisbury Plain Military Danger Area lies directly behind (i.e. to the south) the whole site. Do not go XC except via accepted departure routes!

WEATHER

When wind is west to northwest we often get out-of-phase wave from the Welsh mountains (Black mountains) causing takeoff to be gusty and difficult. Rotor will form over the back of the slope near the car park. Land far back of the car park in wind.
