The first phase of the APPI Instructor Course in Sopot, Bulgaria, was successfully conducted with a focused group of four participants. This structure allowed for close supervision, individualized instruction, and a high-quality learning environment. The workshop was designed to establish the essential foundations required for becoming a safe, effective, and methodical instructor within the APPI system.

The course included both theoretical and practical sections. During the theory sessions, participants studied the fundamental principles of student guidance, proper radio communication, and instructor positioning during takeoff and landing. Detailed attention was given to understanding where an instructor must stand, what they must observe, and how to anticipate student behavior during different phases of flight. These discussions helped participants build the awareness required to safely manage students in real training environments.

In the practical section, candidates applied these concepts directly in the field. Training was conducted both at the main landing zone and on a small training hill, allowing participants to practice instructor positioning, demonstration techniques, corrective communication, and safety procedures. Through repeated exercises, the group developed a clearer sense of timing, situational awareness, and the responsibilities expected of an APPI instructor.

A written knowledge assessment was completed at the end of the workshop, followed by detailed feedback for each participant. Several important recommendations were provided, and candidates were advised to follow these points closely as part of their progression pathway. The purpose of this feedback was to help them refine their instructional mindset and prepare effectively for the next stages of the Instructor Course.

Overall, the Instructor Course – Part 1 in Sopot was highly productive and constructive. The participants showed strong motivation, positive engagement, and meaningful improvement throughout the workshop. With continued practice and adherence to the APPI methodology, they are well-positioned to advance to the next phase of their instructor development. We look forward to welcoming them back for the continuation of their training.
